Isn't the body amazing? Marsha Glass mentions a case of a mom and infant
who were stranded in a blizzard for a week, and the baby shut down and
did not move for 24 hours to conserve energy. Perhaps this baby was
chilled and his core temp dropped slowly. Kids are good at surviving
this kind of insult, and often survive drownings in cold water. Perhaps
he was just getting fewer and fewer calories a day since mom wasn't
getting any nourishment. This is certainly different from situations in
which babies are seperated from their mothers by a catastrophe.
