Dear Friends:
Somebody has to be at the 3rd percentile; that's how the charts work. If
this baby isn't growing any more, that is one issue. If this baby stays at
the 3rd percentile as he grows, that is another, and is okay.
The charts are meant to compare the baby with itself; babies are
supposed to keep growing. The percentiles just rate the baby's size against a
population of other babies. Some babies are little. Some babies are huge. Some
babies are in-between.
Grown-up ladies aren't happy at all about being at the 95th percentile.
Yet there is a popular notion that a baby at the 95th percentile is somehow
superior.
