When a baby cries, his tongue should be straight up in his mouth, (think
blocking the mouth to keep the flies out!) with the tip touching the
roof of the mouth, or almost touching. If he can't do that, there
probably is a tongue tie, even if it is submucous (under the soft mucous
membrane floor of the mouth). You need to lift the tongue and feel for
these. This baby's sucking behavior is classic for tongue tie.
