I think there are some people who cup feed by pouring the milk into the
baby's mouth - not necessarily a large amount at a time, but they pour some
in and then the baby has to try to swallow it, and if the baby is caught by
surprise I think there would be a risk of it going "down the wrong tube."
Perhaps that's what the person who said it was risky was thinking of?
Also, while a baby can refuse to feed with finger-feeding, I do think that
for many babies the finger in baby's mouth and touching the upper palate
provides a strong stimulus to suck, and they may suck even if not really
hungry.
