I read the article and my take is that the author was commenting on the
crass commercialism that intrudes our daily lives. She seemed to be saying
that the advertisements were poorly placed and took away from the images
documenting the human trajedies and disasters that marked 2005. I feel
she was stating that it was offensive to see an emotionally charged
picture of a mother breastfeeding next to a tasteless ad for viagra. The
ad in her opinion, was tasteless, not the breastfeeding photo.
