Once a few LCs had an education offering and a nurse from another area (not
maternal-child) attended to learn more about bf. She had her infant with
her. We all noticed how 'scrawny' and 'bad' the baby looked. After the
session, this lady came to us crying, very upset. She realized that the baby
was being starved. She had never been told about the milk surge, the diaper
counts etc. It turns out this lady had a severe postpartum hemorrhage and
apparently suffered Sheehan's syndrome. She became a client of ours but did
have to supplement quite alot.
