We had a patient who had requested an LC see her one day, on her Press Ganey
she referred to my coworker as the "BF Nazi", this was several years ago.
No one on this planet could be farther from that comparison.
I often tell people that I had never seen but one patient BF while I was in
nursing school on my OB rotation of over 6 months, I was the one to be
convinced to "try" it and long story short it took until the second baby to
convince me that it was a wonderful long term commitment. And as I told my
brother-in-law who wondered "how long I would breastfeed?". "Nothing is worse than
a convert to a cause". He knew exactly what I meant, because he had
converted to Catholicism and was ardent in his conversion. It brought it home
beautifully. Some of us take things we have for granted and others who discover
the same thing will pursue it with great vigor exploring all aspects. I
celebrate the women who choose to BF beyond what this society thinks as "normal
time" and realize not everyone comes to it on the same time frame....it just
might take them a little longer.
Time to go see all those Christmas inductions in chilly S Fl
