I agree that genetic testing would be a very good idea. This case sounds very similiar to one I had two years ago where a 6 month old breastfed baby with FTT was about to be removed from his mother when genetic testing showed a very rare trisomy 15. Suddenly everything made sense!
In this mother's case, her social circumstances were clouding everyones perceptions of what the problem could be.
Sadly to say, by the time the diagnosis was made, all confidencne with breastfeeding was lost and the baby was formula fed. And guess what? He didn't grow any better!
