We have made great strides in the past year in our Level III NICU, as far as being breastfeeding friendly. (We were always very breastmilk friendly.)  Our feeding protocol recommends not starting bottles for at least 2 weeks or once babies are taking 1/2 or thereabout of their full feedings at breast on a regular basis.  
We are a 30 bed unit with recently a census of 45-50.  The NICU director and managers are saying that the breastfeeding initiative  has been lengthening the average length of stay by several days.  We also have moms who are adamant about not starting bottles until the last possible moment. 
As a result of being so overcrowded and longer stays, they are asking my participation in drawing up a contract for moms that will (I think) basically say that they agree to be in NICU as much as possible and be available to nurse as much as possible. Keep in  mind we do not have private rooms or facilities for moms to relax in. Otherwise, baby will be fed bottles after initial 2 weeks.
Anybody out there heard of this? Or anything like this contract? We have a fair amount of moms out of town as well who find it hard to be here every day.
Any suggestions out there from you wise people?
