OK, what's up with all the bloody stools going around?

I have a mom of a 5 wk old whose bloody stools have been getting worse and
worse. She tried eliminating daily, which seemed to help temporarily.
The stools continued to have quite a lot of blood and mucous. Baby
developed fever and was hospitalized. Blood work and stool cultures are
normal. We now believe that the fever was viral in origin and unrelated
to the GI problem. Baby has been put on Nutramagen and the blood has
disappeared.

I've seen several posts in the past couple of months about this same type
of situation, were there ever any real answers? I don't believe this mom
is going to go for a severely limited diet.

Any and all ideas/suggestions are certainly welcome.

Thanks,

Denny
