Permission to post by mother:
Four week old baby has been totally breastfed, 8-1 at birth, 11-1 last week.
Routine testing showed up positive for galactosemia and further testing,
including genetic testing was done. Mom said baby has the Duarte variants
which are heterozygous. Micromoles were tested at 5-6. Mom has been told to
use only soy formula which she started a week ago, but the baby is miserable
and constipated. She has read that some babies with galactosemia can
partially breastfeed and is looking for information. Especially since her
baby was growing and apparently thriving on breast milk before last week.
Thanks for any help you all can give her.
