Okay, true confessions: How many of us had babies who actually *enjoyed* spending quiet alert time on their stomachs before, say, 6 or 9 months?
When either of mine had a stuffy nose, I used to clear it by putting the baby on his stomach. They both hated it, and would snuffle and snort and do an unhappy commando crawl that left a nice snail trail and a clear nose. That's all "tummy time" was good for at our house, at least until they were older. Tummy time on *us*? Fine and dandy. Tummy time on the floor? Forget it! But what primitive infant would have been put down on all those sticks and leaves?
Are there really babies out there who enjoyed wide-awake "tummy time" in the early months? I'd love to know.
