Just got back from a vacation and checked the Lactnet archives but didn't see any ref to a Medscape article discussing a report by Pembrey in Arch Dis Child 2005;90: F156-F160 re: mother-to-child HCV transmission in a 54 mother-baby sample. (So hope I'm not being redundant.)
Per the article the research found in utero transmission likely for 31% and another 50% probably infected during late pregnancy or delivery. Transmission for the remainder was "unclear" but it "but did not seem to occur postpartum through breast-feeding." (Hurrah!) Treatment for maternal HCV during early pregnancy was the not-surprising recommendation.
