As a LLLL as well, I appreciated Karen's email about the time and
emotional costs of being a Leader. Imagine at least 12 telephone calls a
day, every day, while you try to raise your kids and do the other work
in your life... I finally had to stop taking LLL telephone calles and go
on Leader Reserve (though I am still active in my group, chapter and in
training new Leaders) when my LC practice became full time.
Being a mother support group leader is incredible experience. And LLL
area and international conferences have some of the finest continuing ed
on the planet. I know what I know because of "growing up" in LLL. I've
known several women who decided to become LLLLs "just" to gather hours
to qualify for the IBLCE exam, and none of them actually continued. They
thought they were doing things the easy way, and got a rude awakening.
Let's all play nice, and appreciate that our diversity serves us AS LONG
AS we all realize that we all have things to teach and things to learn.
BTW, anyone know of a bf friendly dentist in the NY-NJ-CT area that
might be willing to present at a LLL Conference in Westchester, NY on
short notice (Oct 29)?
