dr. jen
here are a few ideas:
1. if you can, offer to give a talk on helping moms provide milk for the
babies. i would phrase it that way instead of promoting bf. go on the
premise that the 2 hospitals need better coordination of care and continuity
of care when baby is shipped out.
2. support group for the moms; or LLL
3. peer counselors for the moms - WIC?
4. are there any staff at your hosp who seem esp interested in bf. when i
was a level 3 nicu nurse we formed a bf committee and became bf couselors
and had a caseload of bf moms to follow. perhaps a nurse(s) would take on
that role and keep in touch with the moms.
5. find some good handouts; i have one from medela on expressing milk for
preemies; it is from paula meier. i also have a little one on kangarroo
care. i give to all moms.
