Our hospital also experienced the same problem with visitors when we had
visiting hours from 8am to 8pm. Our unit held a task force meeting with
staff and decided to limit our visiting hours from 10am to 2pm and 5pm to
8pm, except the support person could visit anytime. Needless to say,
visitors were and still are very unhappy with us but we explain that the
parents need time together, teaching to be done and mom needs her rest. I
also developed on my computer signs (and had them laminated) for the doors.
The signs were: Mother is feeding baby please check at nurses station,
Mother and baby are resting please check at nurses station, Special delivery
in progress Do Not enter, and Procedure in progress Do Not Enter. Each of
these signs has a picture that goes along with it. Parents are very happy
with these signs, some have even taken the signs home. If anyone wants a
copy, please email me and I will send you the sign.
Hope this helps others that are facing the same problem we did.
