I've often wondered if this would help w/ milk
ejection for our long term pumping moms (NICU, etc.)
as oxytocin nasal spray would. However, as I
understand engorgement (and correct me if I am wrong)
this is more due to tissue swelling and compression of
milk drainage system and not so much of let down.
Frequent, unrestricted BF "should' help decrease or
avoid true engorgement. I tell mom to expect breast
changes with filling and try to avoid using the
engorgement word (although this is the term most folks
understand).
Back to the oxytocin topic; does anyone know if a
sub-q inj. would help w/ troublesome letdown? Back in
the olden days, we would give a minium of pitocin
sub-q to speed up labor. Can't imagine doing that
now.
