I hope this is not off topic, and I apologize in advance if it is.
I have been enjoying the thread on the car seat analogy. I would like to
have such an analogy and be able to publish it in our local newspaper. It
is a funny way to bring to people's attention how silly those explanations
on why ABM is OK are.
But unfortunately this one is not useful, because car seats are not widely
used in Argentina... You don't believe it? Well, it is so. Car seats are
mentioned in the law, as are seat belts. But very few people wear them
both. No, people here do not wear seat belts. Apparently we Argentineans
come with a special God-given feature that makes us immune to injury. That
includes our children.
Thus, we need another analogy for societies such as ours where car seats
are not widely used (and, I add, they are expensive) but where
breastfeeding is not the norm either and marketing of ABM is strong an
insidious. WeŽll try to come up with some, but if anybody already knows of
another analogy, it will be very welcome.
