I have just witnessed the true form of Kangaroo mother Care in South
Africa for the premis there and KMC or Skin to Skin means exactly that. Baby
only has a nappy on and is lying between mother's breasts on her chest and a
blanket over mother and baby.
It truly works we have tried it many times now in our hospital and even
without the baby going to breast effectively (only getting a few drops of
expressed milk) after one hour the blood sugars and temp goes up. A number
of times I have had parents now convicned to do it all day with mom and dad
alternating. They are so pelased with the stabalization process.
