Can someone share with me the laws in regards to breastfeeding in NY,
particularly NYC.
We, the girls and I, were in NYC over the weekend. We happened to be in
FAO, the toy store. They have an area of the store called the Newborn
Nursery, where they have very life like dolls for "adoption". I was
speaking with the "nurse" who was "employed" there, and she told me that
she tells mothers they cannot nurse there at the nursery, even though
they have two very comfortable rockers, and many mothers have begun to
nurse there babies there and have been told to move. There is a family
bathroom right across the hallway and the employee said that woman
should not nurse their children in public because there were "children
about, after all this is a toy store and children should not see that
sort of thing" but that the store should put in the family bathroom a
chair so mothers could nurse there" She was appalled when I suggested
that she eat her food on the toilet. I'd like to think I made her think
but I don't think so. I think I just shocked her. It was an amazing
experience, to be in this area devoted to newborn care and be told by an
employee that women cannot nurse in the store...
