We had one of our babies slurping up a $1,500. or so tab each month.
Sounds spendy until you concider that switching to banked milk verses the
million formula's tried put an immediate end to the exploratory laps,
surgical consults, npo for gastric distention, frequent puking, etc. this
short gut baby had gone through for the prior 3 months. After a couple of
months on banked milk she became stable enough and grew enough to be
discharged. $ 1,500 a month seems high until you comapre it to the
thousands in NICU care costs, surgery, etc. At this point we feel it was
not only of great patient benefit but a significant cost savings to use
banked milk :)
