Hi, All: I just got an e-mail from Kathy Baker (LLLI) re: Illinois House
Bill 1102 which is sponsored by Paul Froehlich, son of Edwina Froehlich,
one of LLLI's founding mothers. This bill which was unanimously passed by
the judicial committe will excuse a nursing mother from jury duty. The
bill goes next to the House and Senate.
This is a wonderful step forward, but I recall being called for jury duty
when I was nursing my now 12 year-old. I think she was about 2 or 3 months
old at the time. I sent back the form I had received in the mail and wrote
on it that I would find it difficult to serve because I was still nursing.
They excused me on the spot - never an issue. But like the Illinois law
passed last August allowing mothers to nurse in public, I will take it
where I can get it!
