The uterus needs to be contracted once placenta is delivered otherwise she can hemorrhage. If there is uterine atony(non-contracted state) the surgeon is usually manually rubbing the fundus of the uterus to help it contract, and a pitocin infusion is always standard procedure post delivery of placenta in a C/S anyway. So the oxytocin release from breastfeeding would be beneficial, not problematic.

Our practice is to have baby stay with parents in OR and to start BF in RR asap unless baby's medical condition dictates otherwise.
