Soothies are glycerin gel pads for breastfeeding mothers distributed by a
company called Puronyx. Soothie is the name of pacifiers distributed by a
company called Children's Medical Ventures. The close name results in some
incredible things when you do a search on Yahoo. This is a copy and paste from Yahoo
(so its exactly as it appeared on the list) in a search for the word
"soothie." It was the third hit--and yeah I should have known I was not looking for a
soothie but soothies.
"Soothie Pacifiers - the ones you got in the hospital - recommended by
lactation consultants for breastfed babies. ... Home Page - Show me the Soothie
Babies. Soothie Products ... is latex-free."
This inadvertant mistake on Yahoo has lactation consultants recommending
soothies (pacifiers) for breastfed babies. Lactation consultants would be
recommending soothies, the gel pad. But the general public might not know that there
are soothies and then there are soothies..........
Funny, I wondered about the similiarity in names and looked up their
trademarks. Soothies, the gel pad, is trademarked to Maturna Inc., which is
distributed by a company called Puronyx. Soothie is a mark for a company called
Children's Medical Ventures, an affliate of Respironics. Soothies, the gel pad,
has little pink hearts in the name, although one cannot reproduce the little
hearts in standard print. Funny, though the little hearts (not in the name but
part of the website decor) are also found at Children's Medical Ventures
website, only they are purple. I guess its that great minds think alike. Although
I am truly surprised that soothies, the gel pad company, allows another
company to use virtually the same name (one pacifier is a soothie, two are
soothies). Creates alot of confusion for consumers and some like myself might wonder
if they are the same company. Of course they aren't the same company but it
sure makes for some inadvertant errors on search engines on the internet.
Children's Medical Ventures has their soothie babies--pictures of babies with
pacifiers in beautiful colors. Puronyx has recently offered $250 to the top 10
pregnant women to mark their bellies with the word "soothies" take a picture of
it, and write an essay on why they like the product. Great marketing, almost
as good as soothie babies.
