I'm sure the media will really hype this one! Yes cocaine is very dangerous
including for an infant when mom is using it and breastfeeding. This woman
obviously had lots of problems. I wait for the day when a woman is charged
with child abuse for refusing to provide breastmilk especially for a child
who winds up with serious medical problems which can be linked to artificial
feeding. Of course, if that ever did happen, it would probably be reported
somewhere back on page 15 or so and with small, light print headlines while
the above probably gets front page coverage with big bold headlines!
We need to educate moms about dangers of street drug use (especially
cocaine) and breastfeeding, but why concentrate on that and not the dangers
of artificial feeding? Effective, available means of helping women overcome
drug dependence would save far more babies than imprisoning after the fact.
(I won't go any further or it will de\finitely get off topic.)
