Yes, in my early days I must admit I was finger feeding a newborn when
the child sucked the paper tape right off my finger and choked on it and
spit it out. I'm not proud of this, but luckily it was a friend of mine,
and she didn't take any legal action.
I learned my lesson, and now tell parents that if they must use tape,
to tape it securely with strong tape at the top of the finger, not at
the first or second knuckle (I, too, rarely send parents home finger
feeding). I also never use tape when I finger feed in the hospital, and
our nurses who do use the stronger tapes available, not paper tape.
