I know that breastfed babies do often gain rapidly in the first 3 months
then slow down but I haven't had a client whose term baby doubled his birth
weight by 2 months.
Ok...another incidental story...One mom in my LLL group has a baby boy who
at the ripe old age of 9 mos weighed over 30 pounds and wore size 4t
clothes.
100% breastfed. I don't know his previous official weights, but even now
at
not quite 2 yrs of age is still the exact same weight (over 30 pounds). He
eats reg foods and is still nursing. He was/is a huge little guy. I have
NEVER seen legs like that on a baby before...and boy, you could resist
kissing
those chunky cheeks. Now he is thinning out...which is a natural
progression. We joke with the mom about her SUPER milk. (in fact she
donated a few
bottles for my daughter when we were trying to desperately figure out her
issues--you should have seen the fat layer on that stuff lol)
My 7yr old son, who was exclusively bf until 6 mos, was 24 pounds at his 4
month check up (9# 2oz at birth) he has always been 95th-100 percentile,
with
a few visits being above the 100 percentile. He has thinned out. He is 7
yrs 9 mos now and is 74.5 lbs. He is at the 95th percentile. It has
always
been his curve. He isn't at all fat...Just a linebacker lol. Neither of
my
other children were at all like that, but it is just him....some kids are
just
big babies, and again as long as they are healthy and happy, where is the
problem? We asked the pediatrician at one point when he was an infant if
we
should be concerned with his "obesity"...he chuckled and said, No... if he
was
3 yrs old and that obese, then we would be concerned....well at 3 yrs of
age, he was still a big boy but no longer any fat to be noticed. All pure
muscle. Now I know where the line backers DO come from.
