I have worked as a hospital based LC for 4.5 years, and I LOVE it!>>>>>>
a similar perspective; been there umpteen years, eastern US medical center
(11,330 births for 2004) with all the fascinating issues and challenges that
come with..............
....examples of why I stay: recently in one day I did a Bf moms group with
17 moms and 17 babies ages 4 days to several months, did a couple of bra
fittings and phone consults, then saw moms at the bedside including in two
different ICUs, ...recently went to the ER to see a mom, the PA and NP were so
interested in hearing about why my job exists, ..............
......during my regular L&D/PACU staff rounds a nurse in PACU happily told
me she that she got the baby's blood sugar up *with Bf*, she wanted to know
how/why that worked, ...during any two month period we might see moms from
about 170 different countries, ....we now have two office secretaries, one every
day *6* days a week, both speak Spanish, and we are hiring someone full-time
to take over all the other non-LC office work, ...we do out-pt consults, we
do in-pt latch check classes on three units five days a week, and one of us
spends several hours a day in the 55+ bed NICU.
Our family centered care research committee recently presented a poster on a
Bf research project at a National conference.
I, and several of us, teach for our staff education department which offers
an ILCA accredited 5 day IBCLC exam prep course, ...and 2 day lactation
courses in in-pt, NICU, and out-pt specialist.
Want to work with us? Let me know.
