Kathy described that in the last NICU where she worked, they delay the use
of EBM (expressed breast milk) after the colostrum state until 34 weeks,
allowing for the potential CMV load to be handeled better by the
preemies.

Maybe Dr. Nancy Wright can enlighten us, does the California Perinatal
quality Care Collaborative support this?  I thought that if the mother was
CMV positive that the baby would have already been exposed to the virus
and receiving her breastmilk would not effect them to a much greater
degree.

Do any of the NICU's that fellow lactnetters work for also follow this
policy?
