Actually, many studies suggest that the lowweight African-American babies
demonstrate a statistical survival advantage over other U.S. races (example:
J Perinatol. 2004 Jun;24(6):343-50. CONCLUSION: The survival advantage of
VLBW black females persists and remains unexplained.) The term African-Amer
babies having comparably lower survival rates vs. caucasian.

Here's a clip from another article:
"the lower birthweight among Asian populations poses no obstacle to
achieving superior infant survival." Int J of Epidem 2002;31:654-660

Can't find stats about African-English low-weight infant survival -- in
light of their far-higher breastfeeding I'd imagine it to be much better
than African-American
