It has come to our attention that many of the mothers who pump milk for their
infants in our NICU do not sterilize their pump parts daily. Various reasons
are given since some of these mothers are staying around the clock in parent
rooms and others are staying at Ronald McDonald House next door. I would like
to be able to provide these mothers with the microsteam bags to use in any
microwave. I am getting resistance because of hospital liability if they burn
themselves. We were told we could not put a microwave in the pump room in the NICU
because "it may be used to heat food". Does anyone use these bags and how did
you get them approved in your institution?
