In the discussion regarding birth, vaginal vs. c-birth..I think a major
issue is informed consent. Just as I have moms who really didn't know that
bottle-feeding formula could impact the health of their babies and their
health as well...there are women who truly do not know the risks of having a
c-birth...and if they are under the care of HCP who does not want to discuss
such risks..most of these women will be clueless about the risks during and
after their births. Most understand there are some risks during the actual
surgery but are completely unaware it could impact their future fertility.
Someone commented on the how c-births can be life saving....YES! Thank God
we have them. I think the issue is, we should reserve this surgery for those
who are in true medical need, instead of elective, planned and not medically
necessary cesareans births. May I invite you all to read the book: "Impact
of Birthing Practices on Breastfeeding." As I have said before, birth and
breastfeeding are inherently female and so very connected. When we respect
birth we will appreciate breastfeeding.
