Several people mention the white star valve for the Isis - it is critical
and must be facing the right direction. Also, all silicone parts must be
seated securely, or there is no suction.
When I got my Isis, I had a hard time getting suction to start, mostly
because of accidently touching the edge of the petal part and disrupting the
suction, but also because the parts just didn't seal together right away
without being wet. I found Isis that after I'd used it a few times it
tended to go together better, and I had suction right off the bat. I
originally had to post to the pumpingmoms list several times to figure out
how to work the thing, but once I worked it successfully once, I never had
trouble with it again! I thought the pump worked well, and I could pump
just as much with it as my PIS, but even the one hand design was tiring, and
it of course took at least twice as long to pump both sides!
