Prematurity would DEFINITELY be a consideratioin. Although we can predict
how a TERM healthy infant will respond for the most part - no such
predictions can be made about preemies, especially if they are VLBW or ELBW.
While at this point it probably would be a non-issue, I would not want to be
the one to tell mom it's ok and then have something happen. Preemies lack a
lot of the immune system that term infants have! CMV ordinarily isn't an
issue either, but in a fetus or premature infant who acquires the infection
in utero it can be deadly. So yes, it certainly a consideration, whether it
is a concern or not would be hard to say. The issue to explore might be what
happens to a fetus or infant infected in utero with the EB virus - surely
there has been some research or case studies on this, that might be your
best guidance.
