Do any of you have personal and/or scholarly experience with the
suitability of kombucha tea for nursing mothers? All my research shows
that it is mainly a probiotic, but one source says that it is "too
strong" for children under six, including via mother's milk. It's just
fermented tea, as far as I can tell, and the ingredients in the final
product (lactic acid, amino acids enzymes, etc) look about as innocuous
as "real" sauerkraut.
I know a couple women who nurse and drink it with no ill effects, but
since I was asked while wearing my breastfeeding counselor hat, I need a
better answer than just an anecdote.
Thanks,
Lynn in Kirksville MO
