I was in the NICU at the local hospital visiting a friend and her baby and noticed an article on the counter. I was amazed that I hadn't heard about it until seeing this piece from a local Vermont newspaper. A device has been designed by Steven Barlow and Donald Finan to diagnose and treat a baby's suck. I was fascinated by it. It's being trialled and might be available in 2007. The designer talks of the possibly of entraining the nervous system to improve suck by organization of the sensorimotor systems. article: _http://www.news-medical.net/print_article.asp?id=4808_ (http://www.news-medical.net/print_article.asp?id=4808) audio: _http://www.kansaskidshealth.org/archived_detail.asp?ProgramID=190_ (http://www.kansaskidshealth.org/archived_detail.asp?ProgramID=190) Photo of the test actifier in use: _http://www.engadget.com/entry/1657755998719633/_ (http://www.engadget.com/entry/1657755998719633/) Mardrey Swenson, IBCLC *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
