as you mentioned, for the short short term, I wouldn't have much
concern.   Not nearly the level of concern i'd have about someone
eating food stored in plastic.  eating food heated in plastic. 
drinking water from many commercially available water bottles....using
saran for food storage...or bags for that matter.

the 24h or so would be of much less concern to me than the lifetime of
exposure we have from other plastic sources.
