the whole algal DHA thing is
absolutely frightening to me. I'm all about the 'whole'
Katherine, I'm not familiar with algal DHA. What is it and why is it frightening? I am fascinated with nutrition and providing a healthy diet for my formally breastfed children, ages, 5, 5, 5, and 3 is as much of a passion for as was breastfeeding them. My knowledge is that of a lay person who reads everything I can get my hands on. I really didn't learn much about nutrition in nursing school or in my IBCLC preparation. I am studying to be a pediatric nurse practioner and finding that again, my curriculum is not very nutrition focused. I find this unfortunate as I believe nutrition--beginning with breastfeeding--is the most important component of good health.
Thanks so much for your perspective and the information on fish oil is very interesting. Sadly, I know that finding safe fish to eat can be expensive and hard to know what you are buying sometimes, but I still like to think that children and adults can eat a complete diet through thoughtful meal planning and shopping vs. supplementation. I also know many vegetarians who would object to fish oil.
Anne
