This is question that I am sure that we have all heard before. I have
permission to post. I had a om call the other day whose baby is almost 4 months old.
She had been giving her a bottle on and off since 3 weeks. She has lipase
issues with her milk so she scalds her milk before storing. Whether it be freshly
pumped or stored milk the baby has had problems taking the bottle. She has
tried all the tried and true solutions-different bottles, different nipples,
different times of day, dad giving the bottle and using different positions. She
was having some limited success with the nuk nipple-mom is latex senstive and
even tried a latex nipple. Last w/e tho the baby went 1 hours with only 4 oz
in. She works Thus, Fri, Sat with Sat being a day she could have her SO bring
the baby in to nurse. She is ready to cut back to just Sat in order to keep BF.
I told her babies are very sensitive to stress. With this being the 1st day
back to work, the baby may have picked up on her and dad's anxiety. She has an
abundant milk supply so I suggested a nipple shield to get the baby into the
silicone. I also suggested dunking the nipple into the milk before offering the
bottle. I also suggested dad where something with mom's scent on it when he
feeds the baby. I suspected and mom agreed that she really doesn't want to go
back to work and this is just the reason she needs.
Thank you for your suggestions.
