A new U.S. report may be hitting the media. After looking at the report
on-line, I see that it devotes 4 pages to breastfeeding as a strategy to
prevent obesity. However, the Press Release fails to mention breastfeeding
at all. Luckily, a news article in the Sacremento Bee DID mention
breastfeeding, so they must have went beyond the press release to write the

In response to a request from Congress for a prevention-oriented action plan
to tackle the alarming rise in childhood obesity, the the Institute of
Medicine of the National Academies's Committee on Prevention of Obesity in
Children and Youth has developed a comprehensive national strategy that
recommends specific actions for families, schools, industry, communities,
and government. The committee's findings and recommendations are described
in the report Preventing Childhood Obesity: Health in the Balance.

Parents must play their part as well, by providing healthy foods in the home
and encouraging physical activity by limiting their children's recreational

In the Executive Summary, Recomenndation 10 -Home, recommends that parents
can:
