I have been following this thread and am a bit confused. Granted, I am
probably very naive about this stuff, given that I am not a LC. But I AM
educated and like to be well-informed and aware of issues, so maybe someone
can clarify. What is the problem with Medela sponsoring/supporting this
man's studies? Why are some on this list suggesting that it discredits
some of his work? Medela is not an ABM company (as far as I know and
admittedly could be wrong!!!). They supply pumps to allow women to
continue milk production! How would it not be in their best interests to
promote legitimate research on how lactating breasts function? Why would
they have some kind of vested interest in NOT gathering accurate
information, whether it be regarding anatomy or anything else related to
the breasts OF THEIR CUSTOMERS?? It would seem that if they (or an other
manufacturer of ANYTHING) want to make the best pump available, they would
want accurate info to do so. It doesn't matter what a company advertises
that its product can do. It will not last if those claims are not proven
to be accurate by the customers! I must be missing something in this debate!
I have no financial or other interest in this company other than being a
very satisfied customer of a PIS who probably would have thrown in the
towel on pumping if I had to continue to hike to the pump room at work
instead of using it! And as an aside, I do not like the new Symphony pump
and get very poor results with it, so I am not biased towards this company
;).
