If the mom's hemoglobin is low, she may supplement herself (use herbal
or ferrochel iron for best absorption) to get her milk levels up to
where they ought to be. If she is normal, she can supp the little one
with ferrochel or herbal iron, or blackstrap molasses (check
labels--some have huge amts of iron and some don't) in a cup of warm
milk-substitute.
My experience was that my soy/dairy/other allergic boy probably had an
intestinal bleed from all the allergy trauma, and he was anemic at ten
months. I apparently was too, because I started using Aviva Romm's
herbal iron (dandelion, yellow dock, blackstrap molasses) and after
three weeks, his iron was up 2.5 points.
