Lactnetters,
I had someone come to me for advice on meds with Fibromyalgia. I told her that I'm not an expert but could do some research and ask for advise here. She would very much appreciate your thoughts.
Doc wants to try a new drug -Cymbalta (duloxetine)-, but there's no info on it (only one post on Dr. Hale's breastfeeding pharmacology groups - and it was only FDA approved for it's primary use in August). It's an SSNRI - though he was also talking about SSRIs and NSAIDs as well. She doesn't really want to take anything and is trying lifestyle management first, but wants to have all the information she can when medications come up again.
I searched the archives and found info on Elavil (amitriptyline) but nothing else and I've already passed on a recommendation for Fibromyalgia & Chronic Myofascial Pain Syndrome: A Survival Manual by D. Starlanyl and M.E. Copeland. Although I haven't read it myself it was mentioned here and in other research I found. It discourages breastfeeding though, so I'd like to arm her with some information to keep going.
Feel free to email me privately or to the group. [log in to unmask]
Thanks so much
Kara Tyler
