I suppose it must be embarrassing to have a patient turn up with retained
placenta, because this does seem to be the universal response. I once
called my MD to report I had passed a sizable piece of placenta--when he
said it wasn't possible, I got in the car and brought it to the office to
have it confirmed. I imagine it happens at times no matter how good the
doctor is. In my case my son had already died, so while I was puzzled at
the lack of milk, I hadn't missed it.
