One on the goals of our Breastfeeding Task Force was to increase the
attendance at Prenatal Breastfeeding Classes. We decided that part of the
problem was getting more than 20% of the couples attending prenatal classes
to OPT for this additional class. So we built it into the class curriculum,
added a class into the regular childbirth prep series. It is now the 5th
class of a 6 week series, taught by an LC, and we get virtually 100%
attendance. I feel that building it in also helps the couples to see that
we consider it an essential, not optional, part of their prenatal
preparation. Another benefit is that the partners usually attend- when I
taught this class as a separate entity, they frequently did not.
