<<2000 IU (50 µg; n = 9) or 4000 IU (100 µg; n = 9)
> vitamin D/d for 3 mo. Our preliminary data show increased mean (± SD)
> circulating 25(OH)D concentrations in the 2000-IU/d group (from 27.6 ±
> 9.8 to 36.1 ± 7.0 ng/mL) and in the 4000-IU/d group (from 32.6 ± 6.9 to
> 44.5 ± 11.4 ng/mL)>>
the 44.5 is right in the optimal range. though should they continue at
that level and continue to test q 3 mo like they should, they may see it
going up too high.
while i love seeing 'enough' D being used, i do know of many cases of D
overdose with these huge amounts given over the long term. in one case,
it was being done under the supervision of a doctor with many of the doc
pts.....testing by the lab was done *wrong* and while i can't give any
identifying details about the case, we'll just say it was *a lot* of
people.
D research is still so in it's infancy.....and breastfeeding infants
were probably never meant to get sufficient D from breastmilk - but from
sunlight. It may be that for them to get their D from bmilk, moms
levels over time would be 'too' high and would put her at risk of
actually loosing bone instead of maintaining it among the other issues
of D toxicity.

big fan of D, but concerned when researchers are playing around with
such large amounts on moms and nurslings
