Re: LC internships
As a board certified lactation consultant with very little LC experience and a LLL leader with 10 years experience I share the frustrations of the women looking for mentors. When I first passed the exam(Oct 2002) I called everyone I could think of to gain more indepth experience. No bites, and here in New Jersey it seems you must be an RN to work out of a hospital. I have had a few calls and try to learn from my clients but feel quite nervous about what I could be missing. I keep up with the literature from Journal of Lactation and League materials and of course Lactnet. There should be a formal program out there (or here!)I certainly got the feeling as a new LC I was not entirely wanted. Try for volunteer opportunities with WIC. Thats my next step since I cant find a JOB with them!
