SBD is really a healthy, well rounded diet. the first two weeks are
pretty strict, but after that, it's really well rounded. depending on
how old the baby is, it may or may not be appropriate to do the first
and/or second phase.
if she limits to a few lbs for the first two weeks, then a pound per
week thereafter, it'd be a good guide that she's getting sufficient
nutrition to sustain herself and the baby.
a good multi with sufficient zinc, b vites and iron is key. when we cut
out those processed fortified carbs, we loose the fortification that US
dietary recommendations count on.
Natrol My Favorite Mulitiple Take One (with iron), is a good one a day
(there are very few) that would be a good completment to SBD *if* the
mom is doing dairy. Rainbow Light Prenatal Just Once is another
excellent one *if* mom is getting sufficient calcium from food. Both
contain very little calcium b/c they're one-a-day multi's. Some other
multi's may be more appropriate for a mom who is not getting much
calcium from food. a visit with a dietician would insure that she's
getting her needs met while on this diet and nursing her baby.
