Hi,
I have a patient whose baby had a soft palate cleft a few years ago. She
breastfed until it was discovered then fed her baby expressed breast milk
using a haberman. She pumped for over nine months. I don't think baby ever
got formula. I am not sure what happened after baby had the repair. She is
very willing to talk to any other mom. I can look up her number when I get
back to the office on Mon.
On another note, yesterday when I entered a patients room, I saw the lab
tech drawing blood from a baby. Baby was in mom's arms - breastfeeding as
the blood was being drawn. I complimented both the mom and the lab tech.
The lab tech said that was what the mom requested! As the lab tech left I
thanked her - she said. "You're welcome, I'll do that but I don't believe in
breastfeeding, my kids were formula fed and they are healthy."
