Hello Lactnetters!
I have a patient with recurrent mastitis. She has been through two courses
of antibiotics and the infection has not gone away. She finished all
medications as prescribed.
Through a review of the archives, Lawrence's 5th Ed, and Jack Newman's
handouts, I have come up with a few recommendations that she can consider.
Does anyone have other recommendations?
1) Antibiotics at least 14 days, up to 21 days per physician's judgement.
2) Clean catch the breast milk and send for culture.
3) Swab infant's throat and send for culture.
4) Treat also for yeast infection 14-21 days.
5) Calcium/Magnesium supplements.
6) Lecithin supplements.
Thanks in advance.
